  • In the UK we have long known that the current healthcare system is being overtaxed by the high costs of operating hospitals and clinics which is why more and more facilities are looking at the benefits of going green with renewable energy. New Energy Futures (NEF) at Solar Install can help you determine what size solar power system you would need to significantly cut the exorbitant costs of electricity (and even gas!) at your facility when an expert installer provides you with a no obligation onsite visit to assess your needs.

    Solar Energy for Hospitals

The first area to be considered would be the generation of solar electricity with MCS certified solar panels. Most often these are photovoltaic (PV) systems that absorb energy during daytime hours which is sent as direct current to inverters where this energy is converted to the alternating current used by the hospital. In some cases it is possible that excess would be produced and fed back into the grid, or stored in batteries for use during hours of darkness. Even in the UK which is famed for its cloudy, dreary days, there is enough energy captured to generate a significant amount of electricity.

Hospitals notoriously use copious amounts of hot water which is why a solar hot water heating system should also be considered. The savings on the cost of heating water will be immediately evident. As well, climate control is of utmost importance in hospitals for patient comfort and wellbeing which is why taking advantage of the government RHI, Renewable Heat Incentive programme can further increase energy efficiency and ultimate savings. What was once the Low Carbon Buildings Programme Grants, both the feed in tariff and the Renewable Heat Incentive schemes are enabling hospitals throughout the UK to operate much more cost efficiently.

Speaking of grants, there are two available as mentioned above, the Feed in Tariff scheme that actually pays hospitals for the solar electricity they produce and the Renewable Heat Incentive to help with solar thermal as well as ground and air source heat pumps. It is currently a bit up in the air what the tariffs will be in the coming years, but an accredited MCS installer would be able to provide up-to-date information in that regards.

Whether the tariffs are to be slashed a bit in the coming years is not as big an issue as not having any renewable energy whatsoever. In other words, a solar installation can provide savings to a lesser or greater degree whilst continuing to buy electricity from a supplier will necessitate paying higher and higher prices as the cost of energy continues going up!

In order to see exactly which solar power system or systems would best meet the energy and heating demands of your hospital, arrange for a no obligation onsite assessment by contacting New Energy Futures online. Simply fill out the easy enquiry form and a representative will be in contact with you within a 24 hour business period. Keep in mind that NEF is the largest MCS accredited solar installation company in the north of England and with more than 50 trucks departing daily for locations throughout the UK, you can be sure that our priority is meeting your solar energy needs for a greener tomorrow.
