  • New Energy Future’s Free Online Solar Calculator

Every month we sit at our desks calculating what we owe in bills and how much we have to work with. This is our feeble attempt at budgeting much of the time and it would be nice to have a software programme which could simply tell us how much we need to make and what we have to spend in order to make ends meet. There are actually such things available but they can be quite costly. When you are thinking about having a solar power system installed on your home to cut the cost of electricity perhaps in half, you won’t need to pay a single copper to utilise a solar PV calculator because they can be found free online.

What Is a Solar PV Calculator?

A solar calculator is quite simply a small software programme which you can access online at sites like New Energy Futures in order to calculate such things as:

    • The amount of money invested in a specific size system
    • Income generated annually at the current Feed in Tariff rate
    • Annual savings in £s on the cost of electricity
    • The total benefits
    • Projected time at these figures to payback the cost of the system
    • Total profit over the 25 year period of the FIT and solar panels guarantee

Keep in mind that the figures will change according to figures which you ‘plug’ in to the software form. These calculations are based on location, the direction of the solar panels and of course the performance in kWp (the size of your system).

What is a Solar Panel Calculator?

Similar to a solar PV calculator, a solar panel calculator is a small software programme which can be found online, the purpose being to determine the size of a solar power system to put out the amount of energy you will need to power your home at maximum performance. Most often the calculator will take into consideration the amount of energy your home uses during an average month and how large a system will need to be to generate the portion of that amount you would like to realise. For example, if you want the optimum system which will generate 50% of the power you are now buying, the solar PV panels will need to be a specific size when combined as expressed in meters squared, i.e. 252 m.

In either case, a solar calculator can help you determine costs associated with a solar installation in terms of the price of a new installation, how much you can save on the cost of energy annually and even how much you can earn back through the Feed in Tariff scheme. As well, solar calculators can also tell you what kind of impact you are having on the ecology by telling you how much CO2 and other greenhouse gases you have avoided sending into the atmosphere. More information on all of these aspects of a solar calculator is located on the New Energy Futures website. Take the time to browse around the information we have made available for you to learn about the amazing benefits you can gain from solar power.
